We had a joyful Pentecost celebration on May 24 with mostly everyone wearing red. Pastor Dave led our service with great joy and enthusiasm and we ended the sermon with a kazoo parade to “When the Saints Go Marching In.”

Bela opened worship with his prelude, “Come, Holy Spirit.” We were happy to have Patty join the music with Bela, the choir, Denise, and Ed. Our choir sang “Pentecost” with Bela on the piano, Patty playing handbells on the organ, Ed on the drums and several members playing finger cymbals and tambourines. They also sang “A Pentecost Prayer” which was beautiful.

It was the choir’s last Sunday singing for the worship service until September. Many, many thanks to Bela and the choir for their devotion to practice and singing for our worship services.  They have gifted us beautiful music for our worship services, and we appreciate it.

“Here Comes the Sun” was Pastor Dave’s message. He brought his Bible that he received from his church when he was a 2nd grader. “I had God’s Word in my hands as a 2nd grader… have you told anyone your favorite Bible verse or Bible story…God wants us to discover His Son, Jesus Christ…are you willing to let the Holy Spirit descend on you like a dove?…do you thirst for God:…Jesus came into this world for you personally…”

Serving in our worship service was Jackie Clement as acolyte, Merry Jeanne Minder and Mary Ann Jones as greeters, and our liturgist, Debbie Richman, who always reads the Scripture with great enthusiasm. Thank you all.

About Pentecost

Pentecost signifies the coming of the Holy Spirit to the early followers of Jesus Christ and also recognizes the day that the church was established. Pentecost always occurs seven weeks after Easter Sunday, 50 days after Easter. In other words, it falls on the eighth Sunday counting Easter Day.

The English word “Pentecost” is a translation of the Greek word pentekostos, which means “fifty.” Pentecost is an opportunity for us to honor the role of the Holy Spirit in our lives and celebrate the birth of the church.
