The Rowan University Jazz Band is an ensemble cast in the traditional big band model trailblazed by greats like Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Buddy Rich, Maynard Ferguson, and Stan Kenton. The Jazz Band performs much of the traditional big band repertoire as well as contemporary works. Jazz Band rehearsals emphasize preparation for performances, ensemble playing, and sight-reading. A focus is put on student-initiated compositions and arrangements.
